I have dial up internet and when people ring I get cut off, Is there a way which I can stop this from occuring..

Yes, depending on where you live. You most likely have call waiting. Call your telco to find out how to turn it off (or some shells like AOL have an option to let the software know you have it and to ignore it).

Given the symptoms, it sounds like your phone connection isn't very good. It happens could be the modem renegotiating your connection and trying different connection speeds (baud rates).
The fix? Have the phone company check you line quality. If that comes back with no changes, make sure your modem drivers are updated.
Lastly, you might check out broadband or high speed access.

get a cable or DSL internet instead
