Is it illegal to buy clothes from one store, and then sell them for a higher price at your own store? Like is there a rule that you must by directly from the vendor?

No, it is not illegal for most items, you cannot use their store sale tags or other identifying items on them when you resell them.

In the designer wear business, however, it is a different matter as their clothes are licensed to be sold by only certain retailers and are legally protected. You have to directly contact the label for their procedure - it will be different per designer.

But...why would you want to buy at a retail price and sell retail regardless of how cheap the price, or is it REALLY that low?

That would be perfectly appropriate from a discount store, but you must be aware that it would not be profitable unless they were bought deeply discounted. Do go trolling at the manufacturer outlet stores, and take nice large bundles of good things home to your little shop for a reasonable markup. That can work very well.

This would also be perfectly appropriate from importers, second-hand stores and whatever. You just need to be able to get merchandise enough less than what you can sell it for to make the profit worth the gas and time it will take you to go get them. Or you can buy directly from the manufacturer on-line if the shipping charges are reasonable. Let UPS be your "distributor."

no, of course not. it's just not good business sense. seems to me you would want to get your product at the lowest price possible. most stores mark up their products 60-100% over wholesale. it simply makes no sense for you to pay that 60-100% over wholesale.

nope not at all.

Dont forget that distributers also charge for their distribution of the product.
