I think the most common (and most deadly) natural disaster is flooding. Flooding is a condition when water from a higher position inundates low-lying areas.

71% of all the earth's landmass is covered or surrounded by water. Water falls on dry land in the form of precipitation on all but the driest of places. Plus, the topography of the Earth's surface is varied: some places are inevitably higher than others. And last but not least, many of the world's towns and metropolises (New York, Lagos, Cairo, Tokyo, London, Rio de Janeiro) are located near water bodies and are also located in the lowlands.
Therefore, I believe that floods can and will occur in most places, and thus that makes it the most common natural disaster around. Check out the "Ten deadliest natural disasters" article and search for floods and flood-related disasters:

Droughts occur in limited parts of the world, and the term "drought" itself has various degrees.
Forest fires occur only where forests exist (only 30% of the earth's total land area).
