When the nations of the west were exploring and expanding their empires, they drew borders and created other nations, often favoring an inferior sector of the native population(race, religion, etc). At the time I'm sure it was logical for the borders to be drawn as they were. But today, in the face of so many regional conflicts, they seem highly illogical and may have much to do with a good deal of violence in the world. I have not heard any major news program address this issue. Nor have I heard anything from the UN about this.

Try changing the borders...watch the fireworks from both sides.

What would changing the borders fix? Nothing. Maybe they are arbitrary, but then again, people have gotten used to them. Much of the violence in the world (Nationally-speaking) is religious in nature (Muslim extremists vs. everyone else) or is about grudges (North Korea got esp. pissy when Bush made it clear he doesn't want to talk to a childish bully-that Kim would have to play nice before anybody would play nice back). Changing borders on a map won't make that go away. It would only give countries another excuse to fight with each other.
