I received an offline I.M. from someone I know. He claims to know nothing about it. It contains an address neither of us recognized, atleast until I ran across a very similar one on a net provider the both of us use frequently. If it indeed came from his I.M. account, is it likely he did send it and changed his mind there after, or more likely something suspicious he really doesn't know anything about? If this site is what I beleive it to be, I have no concerns of virus threats etc. and would enter it. Somone pressed the send button, just wondering how likely or of the possibility this message came from an outside source.

I don't know what kind of messenger service you are using (I'm guessing it's Yahoo!) but I know first hand that there are (or were, I don't use it much anymore) many AIM viruses that get around. Most of them change people's profiles to include a link to a bad website where you would then have the "profile" virus downloaded onto your computer. I have had this happen to me, and it was easily fixed.

More fitting to your case, my friend once had a virus that sent out IMs with links to harmful sites to every online person on their buddy list. I'm not sure if these problems exist on Y! IM, but it could be possible. If you are unsure, just ignore the message.
