3G will be launched in India by second half of 2007
NEW DELHI (Reuters) - India expects to launch 3G mobile telephone services in the second half of 2007, telecoms minister Dayanidhi Maran said on Wednesday.
"The process for introducing 3G service has already been initiated in India, and it is expected that we should be able to launch 3G services by the latter half of 2007," Maran told an industry conference.
India recently allowed four major carriers, including Bharti Airtel Ltd., to conduct indoor trials of mobile services based on the 3G spectrum so they could test equipment.

Actually all the telecom service providers have equiped themselves with infrastructure required for 3G technology and its interesting to note that 3G handsets are now available in India. The apex body i.e "TRAI" has just hold on the policy due to problems regarding the bandwidth usage.Probably 3G will come to effect from few months from now.
