Barber's Adagio for Strings. It's the music played in the film Platoon, and also at the end of the Elephant Man when he dies. Very moving music.

Look for composers that lived in the late romantic period (late 1800s-1900s) like Dmitri Shostakovich (I'm playing Shostakovich's Concerto No.1 for Cello, and it's the most intense cello piece I know and have ever heard!) This period is good to choose from because it was around WW2 and many of the composers wrote accordingly with their feelings and emotions at the time, so yah. Edward Elgar, Rachmaninoff, Rimsky-Korsakov, Tsaikovsky, and Stravinsky are all composers of this time, and much of their work is very intense and dark. So, there you go!

God bless, and keep up the classical music listening.

Bach's, toccata and fugue in D minor. You'll know it when you hear it. If you've ever seen the original 1975 movie rollerball, bach is playing in the opening credits. Also, it is the piece from the original "phantom of the opera". very dark piece, you can download it on limwire.com...check it out

I dont know what it is because I'm not into classical music, but the creepy song they play in "Sleeping With The Enemy" with Julia Roberts is pretty dark. They play it once when her and her psychotic husband are living together. Then they play it again when she is living in her own house and he is in there and she doesnt know it.
