Why do SOME Americans are so proud of themselve?

Economy- The japanese average salary range are much higher than the Americans. For example, all the americans working in the American military base want to pay by the japanese goverment instead of the american goverment, because the japanese goverment pay much better.

Political- freedom- I am pretty sure the Canadian government gave its citizens much more freedom than the American gov. For instance- freedom of speech, legal drinking age, drug policy( too much contorl over it, it doesnt seem like its better than canada tho, the US had much more drug violence than canada), gay marriage, etc.

Appearence- For sure European are much much better( no matter face(better , body(american are fat), and fashion, american fashion are crap (Abercorombie has no style at all, pretty much the same thing in the shop, but american are so crazy about it),

Smartness-- American are not the smartest people in the world, prob the Chinese are

the Americans should learn something from other countries, you all are not the best, admit it.

Where had the best school in the world?? prob UK (Oxford) has better school than the US. and in many part of the world, employers are willing to accept a british grad than an american grad. a friend of mine was looking for a job in japan, the employer askred my friend where she graduated? and she said NYU( one of the best school in america). guess what, the employer denied her job application.

Because they don't know history (except of their own), they don't know geography(except where America is in the map),they don't know how to live their lives (except by using the guns to take what they won't)!
Generally, people with so little knowledge of the world and so little contribution to the human civilization tend to feel proud of themselves as they don't really have anything important to feel proud about compared to the great civilizations in the past!

People in some countries tell me that they don't like American culture. Is that why they wear baseball caps, blue jeans and sneakers, (People who know fashion, i dont think they do like it) go to eat at their local Burger King or have cup of coffee @ Starbucks (All the JUNK no quality at all) ? Or go the Google search engine? or watch American movies and listen to American movies(you got me on that, but people in other countries make their own too, so American movie and music usually are just an alternative)? "America is the best country in the world" is a doctrine that is taught to every US schoolchild. Then, it's reinforced in some by right wing talk radio, Fox News, and to a lesser extent the mainstream media.

Why are you so bitter? Does it matter what they think? My home will always be the Ukraine and that in itself to me is the greatest country ever as I'm sure you think your country is the greatest. Everything in your post is an opinioon otherwise you wouldn't use the phrases "I think" and "probably" as much as you do. Your tactic was really shallow as well to post a question, get answers then post a weak argument using isolated incidents knowing the people can only post once, have you ever posted this question on a message board or chat room, or are you one of those people who always has to have the last word no matter how inaccurate and biased it might be.. One person in a couple hundred million asks you if they need a passport so you judge an entire country by that? One person beats another person for a job and you judge two different educational institutions? In business school they taught us english, not American as you put it, and my best friend studied international law in China and they taught her english so even though you haven't heard it there are several others who have. I hope people keep posting to this question because your arguments are making you appear weaker each time especially in your butchering of the language. It's obvious you are full of hatred for whatever reason for that country. I've been there twice to visit, I neither love nor hate the place. I've met good and bad people there but your argument against them is shallow at best and rather pointless. America is nothing more than a conglomeration of all countries on the planet. America eh! tough question to answer. Ive been there and had an awesome time with some great people. But they do have issues. For a start i feel that their governments unpopularity has emerged from their education system. The high schools and colleges develop this rampant ideals of 'being better'. Prom queens, sororities, fraternities. I have met a lot of college students and many are pretty thick. Escpecially the girls(only reason they seem to be in college is daddy's credit card) . The high schools are so geared towards popularity that you either become a jock called chad or some kid who has taken such a beating that one day he walks into his classroom with an uzi. Growing up in england and watching the stereotyped movies about american education you think that it cant be real, but it is! And where do you think most people in american government went to college? America is a third world country with very good Media representation. Look at new orleans, they didn't hide that one to well.

I think they are taught from an early age that "we broke away from Europe, we have a constitution, we have a bill of rights - they are all still living in mud huts in Europe, therefore we are better".

They don't understand that we have just as many freedoms in Europe as they have. And to some extent we are better off.

The fact that they still have to PAY to see the doctor when they are sick and there are so many blatant inequalities in their system, plus a horrible, selfish attitude that anyone who's poor "MUST" be lazy because of the American dream being open to everyone (bullshite, actually).

They keep saying everyone else wants to live there. God I would HATE to! There is no way I'd leave Wales and live there.

The funniest thing is that they beleive that being allowed to carry guns makes them "freer" than other countries.

These people are presumably too stupid to realise the misery guns cause in the wrong hands and see how many thousands die every day in America in gun related crimes. And that there might be a GOOD REASON for banning guns. ie your mother/father/brother/sister/ or wife/husband/child might NOT get killed by one if they were not so easily available!

I mean any inbred moron can wave a gun around in America. Yeah its his "constitutional right" blah de blah. But when he kills some poor sod with it what then? What about the victim's rights? And the bereaved family?

Americans need to come into the 21st century and be more realistic about the impact gun crime has on their culture.

Americans have a lot to be proud of. First they won a revolution against the then number one world power UK. They then set about the business of establishing the world's first really elected republic since that of the Roman Republic. Yeah and without them, we Brits would probably have still been fighting WW2 until around 1949 or even 50. Because of the Americans, we all got ashore in France in June 1944 and on to ultimate victory.

Your right America isn't the best place to live on any of the grounds you have mentioned. Many Americans don't even live in a house, they live in caravans!! That is poor by any western standards. America is in many ways an example of a third world country with a few stupidly rich people and a mass of paupers. This is inaccurate only because there are many reasonably well-off people too, living in the cities.

But what America has that no other country can gloat about in the same way is friendliness. Just about all Americans are friendly, happy and polite, and sometimes the best things are free. And if everybody around you is happy, then you tend to feel much better too.

Economy - Soldiers and sailors do not get paid what the average american gets paid, they are given housing and food instead. Don't judge by that!

Political freedom - We have guns, Canadians don't, our drinking age is higher because we have more freedoms and kids get hurt abusing those freedoms. I agree with the drug policy being better in Canada. The american public made the gay marriage dacision, not the government, its called voting!

Appearance - Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, the average american does not wear what you see on TV!! American women are very beautiful! And we have a lot of food to choose from because of our freedoms!

Smartness - I agree that the majority of americans are pretty dumb you got me on that one....but...it is because we are secure, we don't need to worry about being sick, or invaded or a lack of work like other countries.

Americans have been conned into beleiving the American Dream. This unravelled spectacularly when New Orleans flooded and the poor and black were left stranded. They have limited healthcare so people die for want of treatment. They treat black people and native Americans badly. Bush has made people resent America as never before but still they beleive the big lie.
