At the turn of the century working conditions were deplorable. Children were exploited. Labor unions served an valuable purpose when they were formed. They improved working conditions for people. But that is ancient history. They quickly degenerated into a harmful entity.

Now we have things like OSHA and the Department of Labor in America. Labor unions are an anachronism. Many unions are infested with leftwing political operatives, even communists. Often they have ties to organized crime (i.e. the Mafia). They employed brutal tactics and violence to achieve their goals. If you disagreed with them, you'd end up with a busted kneecap or worse.

Many US states have now passed "right-to-work" laws ensuring citizens the freedom from union intimidation. In modern times, we ought to get rid of these embarrasing relics of the past. Don't you agree?

Trade unions, that assure qualified employees are getting jobs at jobsites (electricians, ironworkers, etc.) play an important part in making sure their tade is staffed with qualified employees.

Labor unions and bargaining agnecies just rob employees of their dues money. I've seen too many examples of labor unioins who form alliances with the employers to prevent having de-unionization meetings. They allow the union but the union doesn't interfere with the decisions of the business.

And the sheep employees get to keep paying dues and don't get the representation.

Except for the trade unions I agree that unions are an anachronism.

One of the biggest factors in outsourcing is the problem with unions. Unions were a good action in the days but sadly unions are just about the biggest reason for the downfall of American productivity in the manufacturing sectors. Union dues keep going up at the rate of 5 times the rate of wages for union workers. Union workers now hae fewer representation than 10 years ago. Unionizing has now been proven to be negative effect on businesses in America.

I am not a big fan of unions. They seem to just be fat cats and many of them just evolved into criminal enterprises.

I don't think they are really doing all that much for the American worker that really needs protection.

That said--there is still places where they should be involved--like Walmarts. Those employees need better working conditions.I don't quite understand why a labor union has been unable to organize them.

Are you kidding? There can be corruption in any system, but overall, unions protect working conditions. Today, workers are getting paid less, working more hours, aren't getting adequate health insurance...getting no vacation time...

We could use more unions again...
