Unless you smoke in excess of three grams (6 to 10 joints) of marijuana a day, everyday you are pregnant, it is very unlikely that you will damage your unborn baby.

The baby isn't normally affected by anything for the first two days, because the fertilized egg does not implant itself into the placenta right away. Once the fertilized egg implants itself, anything you ingest can affect the baby, good or bad. I have read that smoking marijuana CAN affect an unborn baby. To what effect, I don't know. Keep in mind that not all marijuana is equal - some is laced with extra drugs. Also, some is stronger than other kinds. Do you know exactly what kind you were smoking? Were they just pinners or fatties? The real issue here is... if you were smoking two joints a day before the baby was conceived, were you making good life choices in general? Were you making good choices regarding who fathered the child? Are you going to be making good life choices in the future for the benefit of your child? Are you eating greens containing folic acid? Eating from all the food groups, drinking lots of water? Avoiding sugar, etc. etc.

I don't think its going to cause any damage to your baby as long as you stop now. It's not going to cause any dramas during the first few weeks but if you continue to smoke it will or can, You will feel much better after stopping you will be able to look at your pregnancy in a clearer mind. (I know) Pregnancy takes a real toll on a womens body, it makes your heart pump harder and you really don't need the extra strain on your heart so its not just your baby that will benifet but you will more so. The first month is the hardest to remind your self you don't need it you have to think about your baby before yourself. It can cause the brain not to develop properly so you need to have a healthy body to give the best to your baby. You shouldn't smoke pot while pregnant or breastfeeding because everything you put into your body your baby takes the majority of.

During the first four weeks of pregnancy your baby is indipendant it becomes dependent on you once the placenta has formed which is starting now for you. You will enjoy your pregnancy much more while clear headed and just remember that its 9 months of your life that your providing everything for your baby so you want to give them the best start in life. I do recommend that if your around pot smokers you stay away for a while or it will make things very diffucult for you and you don't want that around the baby anyway. Hope this has helped a little for you. It's worth it trust me.

Firstly I have no problem with people smoking marijuana and if you smoked it and didn't realise you were pregnant, there isn't much can do about it and it may have no effect. But I have read in pregnancy (what to expect when your expecting) books that it can be linked to cancer in your child later on in life. We already know it affects brain cells in its users what would it do to a developing baby. To the first person that answered your question, I think they are seriously wrong, how can you smoke it all the way through pregnancy and your child not be born with effects or suffer withdrawals.

No, I was smoking it before I found out I was pregnant (that was at 4 weeks) and the baby is alright. Don't worry, even if you carried on, the harm would mostly come from the ciggarette in it than the blow. I gave it all up though after I found out. The hardest was giving up ciggarettes, but I've finally kicked the habit, lol, so good luck to you, and congrats x

there are a lof of women that smoke cigarettes, pot or drank alcohol before realizing that they are pregnant and if the stop those they most likely go on to have a healthy baby. Some drugs can have an effect on the baby's development because all of the major organs do almost all of their developing in the first 12 weeks. If you have smoked it have your doctor keep a closer eye on the baby's developement.

No I don't believe so. My kids are fine. And the labour wasn't very long for either of them (less than 10 hours each time).

It may not harm the baby, but I still wouldn't risk it.
