I've heard it several times before... "if you raise taxes too much, the rich will leave"... rich Republicans I'm assuming, since they are defending them...

are these the "patriots" that constantly talk about how American they are? So patriotic that they will leave if we don't give them a small percentage of their money back?

they are so American that they will leave, if they don't get to keep that extra million, on top of their 500 million that they have in an offshore account already?

I guess it's ok to die for your country, but don't repeal that 5 percent tax cut or I'm moving?

yes, it's quite clear who the real Americans are when you talk about money I guess?

MK6: ok, now if you want to say the government steals... that's one way of looking at it... but that's a border line anarchist view of the whole thing...

Simon Templar: wow... you really just really love the rich don't you... all I'm saying is pay a that small percentage... and you're talking about doubling mine? hahaha...
do you really think the rich would leave over a small percentage? with all their companies here... with their lives here?
I would be willing to pay double my percent of my disposable income in taxes if they would pay double their percent of their disposable income... hahaha... I would be paying more... sure but they would be paying billions...

as I can see by how mad you got that I would dare ask a rich person to pay more... who the real American is...

The govn't steals, and anybody would want to protect their interests.

And no, it's not in the country's interest to steal and basically give it to someone else.

Don't forget, during the 1970's the tax rate was so 'progressive' that a doctor was paying 70% in taxes!! (ouch!!)

G You seem like a person who loves his country but you are miss guided a bit. No offense meant. You have fallen into the trap set by the liberal elite that rich people should be made accountable for the poor. That somehow their being rich takes away from you and even more so those less fortunate then you. How dare Bill over there have all that money when Joe just barely gets by? It's just not fair! Well my friend life isn't fair. The best we can hope for is what this great country gives us. And that is the freedom to pursue our own goals. We all have an equal chance to become rich if that's what we want. Or we can be a welfare brat and watch soaps all day eating chetos while laying on the couch. It's our choice. The liberals who run the Democratic party now a days wants you to be envious or mad at the rich for not helping the poor more then they do. Their goal is to make everyone equal do you think that would make America a better place? It's a feel good mind game they are playing which in the end simply gives those in power more power over our lives if we let them have their way. All that would do is take away more of our freedom and make us all equally miserable. It's called liberism or socalism it hasn't worked in the past and won't work in the future. Besides all tax increases end up hurting the middle income folks more then the rich. And it slows down the economy. The less taxes we all pay the better off our country is. And by the way all rich people are not Republicans. Did you know that there are more rich Democrats in Washington then Republicans? I'm not saying you should kiss the rich mans back side but give him some slack the poor are not their responsibility. Sure some are greedy sob's but some also give a great deal to charities so it all works out. Just don't let those libs fool you ok?

I know! If the rich leave -- who will you have to mooch off?

I think the real question is -- why would it bother you so much if they did leave. the rich are evil, right? They contribute nothing to society, right? All they do is steal from hard-working Americans like yourself, right?

I'd think you'd be happy to see them go. Then you can get your tax revenue from... Hmmm.... where WILL you get your tax revenue from?

I say that YOU should prove just how American you are! I submit to you that you should offer to pay DOUBLE whatever amount you pay in taxes now. That'll show those greedy rich people who the REAL Americans are!

Who do you think of honestly creates jobs then? The welfare unmarried mothers? whilst is once you strengthen up you will learn that the only people making an investment money in beginning a corporation are persons that have extra money to speculate. No credible economist recommends elevating taxes on every physique in the time of an economic downturn, it continually makes issues worse. the subject is uncontrolled spending, till government cuts all pointless spending every physique that helps elevating any taxes is a fool.

If, percentage wise, you paid the same amount of taxes the wealthy pay, you would be eating dry cat food and living in a van.

What's really funny in all of this is that our country has one of the LOWEST tax rates in the developed world! In sweden, eg, any income over $1million is 90% taxable! And they think they'll be richer by leaving! Pshaw...
