Cute avatar.

The difference is much like the difference between sympathy and empathy.

You feel sympathy towards someone or something of which you can relate to personally.

You feel compassion, or empathy towards someone or something of which you have not experienced personally but can understand the weight of the situation as closely as though you WERE experiencing it for yourself.

Compassion is sympathy for someone's plight coupled with a strong desire to help them out.

Sympathy is the power of sharing the feelings of another person, especially someone in trouble or sorrow.

Compassion- Deep awareness of the suffering of another coupled with the wish to relieve it.

Sympathy-the ability to enter into, understand, or share somebody else's feelings

So I guess the only difference if a person actually wasn't both Compassionate, and Sympathetic would be that the compassionate person feels, as the sympathetic understands.
