Food crops are routinely tested for the presence of a wide spectrum of pesticides and heavy metals.
Basically a sample of the food stuff is prepared for analysis either via HPLC, GC, Atomic Absorption etc and run against a known standard mixture.
From this the level of the impurity whether it be pesticide or heavy metal can be reported.

Tables of acceptable levels in our foodstuffs are then consulted to see whether the sample is inside or outside of consent limits for human consumption.

There are many web links giving more detailed information on this, just search for pesticide residue analysis or heavy metal residue analysis.

the produce that we eat are treated with pesticides to keep everything looking good and fresh. in regular produce the produce is sprayes with pesticides while riping in the tree and so forth which means that you have a certain amount of persticides in your food as we speak. second, there is a limit for the pesticides in your food so that you will not be harmed and there are tests done to see the amount of pesticides in the food. next i would suggest switching to organic fruits and veggies which od not deal with any pestisides and are all natural!
