It seems that "great" classical music only goes up to the 50's. Copland, Shostakovich, Stravinsky, Gershwin are all from the first half of the century.

But my collection has nothing created in my lifetime. Am I missing someone??

I go back a bit further then that but would have to choose Gershwin as my favorite and haven't seen anyone who has bypassed or succeeded his music since his time. He was more talented then anyone could ever imagined. You haven't missed anyone and you certainly know good music. Music you could listen to, enjoy, understand and feel. Louis Armstrong was a great musician but his high notes were a bit too high for me but to me he was a classic in his own way.

I have run accross the same situation, even the Cole Porter tunes are over 50 years old. And Gershwin too.

I'm not that familiar with classical music, but one of my favorite things to listen to is Yanni's piece of work "Nostalgia".
