I have a web site and rather than writing articles on every press release I recieve or find on the subject matter of my site, is it illegal, unethical, and/or unacceptable to just post the press release on my site rather than writing articles or hiring someone to write them? I'm looking for a cost efficient, easy, quick solution.

I would be reposting it as is, not pretending like I wrote it.

It is legal and ethical with proper attribution unless the material is copyrighted in such a way as to prohibit publication without permission.

This is usually not the case with press releases. As long as you credit the press release you can publish it as written, provided you don't change its meaning through paraphrasing or editing.

It can be unethical to re-distribute press releases if you are doing it without listing the sources. It's like taking something from a textbook and using it as your paper without listing the sources. I think if you wrote the articles yourself you would feel good that you have promoted your website in a postivie and ethical way. You will have a bad name if you just re-distribute those press releases. Even if you need to hire someone to do it it will save you money in the long run since you don't want to have a lawsuit against you. Good luck with your website and articles.
