Hi! If this is your first pregnancy they may recommend waiting until you are 20 weeks. But I am pretty sure that they should be able to tell by then. In any case this depends on what happens when they run the scan. I had to wait until I was 22 weeks with my daughter because when I went in at 18 weeks, her legs were in a position that made it impossible to see clearly and she was stubborn and would not move. I hated having to wait so long to get another appointment because this was a very popular doctor but anyhow, wait and see. You'll probably know when the time comes.

Congratulations, It is not 100% but if at your 18 weeks scan your baby is playing the game and lays in the right spot then its possible, It is more likely they mistake a boy to be a girl but it is common to also mistake a girl to be a boy, Its not a clear picture as its made up by sound waves so its never said that this is defiantly a boy/girl. I was told the correct sexes of my 2 children but I don't believe the sex they told me this time. My sister in law however was told from 18 weeks to her last scan at 39 weeks she was having a boy and she has a beautiful daughter.
Good luck

I remember when I was pregnant. I was eager to know the sex of the baby. I do believe that I was close to five months or 4 1/2 months when they told me that my first child was a girl or they thought it was a girl. It was so funny because every one told me by there old tales that the baby was a boy or some said it was a girl. The doctor also said it was a chance she could be wrong just by looking at the u/s. I wish you the best, and I hope you have a healthy baby. -o- by the way the doctors knew that my little boy was a boy for sure.

50% chance of being able to tell w/ normal ultrasound, if using a 2D or 3D or 4D your chances are about 75% as long as baby cooperates, haha. Also, a simple blood test can be done & it is super accurate. It can be done as early as 5 weeks, not all docs will do, but most of the OBs I work with will it is 100% accurate & only about 1 year old, it is only avail. in the US. Most insurance cos do not cover but it is only about 200.00. I believe you can also order the test yourself, w/o doc. Good Luck for a Happy & Healthy Baby! Check out the link

If the baby is in the right position they may be able to, but if they say that it looks like it may be a girl, don't go rush out and buy everything pink. Wait until you have another scan or until the baby is born. Higher chance of having a boy when they say it looks like a girl than having a girl when they say it looks like a boy

At 18 weeks the sex of the baby should be clear enough for the sonographer to tell. I had scans at 19 weeks and they could see very clearly then.

yes they should be able to tell just fine by 18 weeks. Unless your little guy has his legs crossed like mine did, or if they are in a weird position. But chances are you'll be able to find out if you choose to

As long as the baby is sitting in the right position they should be able to tell.
