on someone who has hurt and backstabbed me for a long time? Ive even moved away from them and they still try to bring me down....any ideas?

You can either move on and let them think they've won, or you can get revenge! Revenge is SWEET!
First, you could give them the silent treatment, then spread rumors about them, go out with their ex or ask out their mate if you like the mate, have a party and don't invite them, go on a world cruise and send them a whole heap of postcards to make them jelouse and a few pics of you with some hot dudes.
OR!
You could just talk to them about what they have put you through. See if they are just jelouse of you, or if they are the oppisite gender from you, they may be doing it to get noticed. Just talk to them, explain how you feel about what they have done and they keep doing it, just ignore them and get a REAL FRIEND.

Ignore them 1st. Do not share any details with them yourself. although if it really means alot then you may tell someone who will for sure tell them. All good news of course. In reality it is best to let those types stir in their own juices. So they are never quite sure what or what will become of you.

There is no best way.. It always to a major league backfire... Just go on with your life and leave them the hell alone. your better than them.

hit them back :) move back real close to them.. even next door if possible and give them hell.. put glue in their door lock, slide rotten peanut butter under their door. throw rotten eggs at their windows.. be creative :D or u can just forgive and forget
