It depends completely on the nature of the stain. A sugar-based stain (soda, juice, chocolate, etc) is best removed with warm water and mild detergent. A protien-based stain (blood or other bodliy fluids) is best removed with colder water. Stains like oil are best removed with detergents and hot water (not too hot or it will ruin the color). To keep the crushed velvet in good shape, try using a bit of shout to pretreat the effected area and use a damp cloth to blot the stain. Try not to rub it back in forth or it will ruin the velvet.
