it's called rally cap...when your team is behind you flip it inside out, wear it backwards, or many other little quirks invented for the superstitious world of the baseball player. when i played we had the shark rally cap...we'd fold the hat like when it was new and place it on our heads so the bill looked like the dorsal fin of a shark. didn't always work but it showed we supported and believed that the team could come back and win

i think disrespectful is a perfect word to describe it, it is not illegal but is rude and a player would probably be fined, obviously catchers do it, but that is a different situation. Players also sometimes wear hats backwards during the hr derby (ken griffey jr.), but that is obviosly an exception

Inside out and backwards, it's called a rally cap, and it's for good luck.

Rally caps are to show your support for the team
and superstitiously for "good luck".

By turning the bill upward, the theory is that the good luck will not spill out.

Supposedly to bring good luck to their team. Didn't work at Shea on Thursday night... :(
