Brown tips = mineral deposits
Wilting despite watering, could mean (911) that the plant is/has drowned. "Yes, plants need air at their roots", said my Botany Professor. When the roots drown they can't bring water to the rest of the plant, so it wilts. I could be wrong, but your discription sounds like overwatering..

Allow the soil to dry out before you water again because you may still have some live roots that could recover. If the roots are weak and the soil stays constantly moist-to-wet root rot will attack & kill them. The day the top soil feels completely dry (or the day after) water (with liquid fertilizer added). Dump the run-off water. Don't water again until the soil feels dry again. The fertilizer (as recommended by the manufacturer) will help the roots grow strong. Liquid fertilizer (added to the water) makes the nutrients readly available to the roots because this is urgent care. Go to your local garden center, or hardware store or drug store gardening isle and to get your houseplant fertilizer, if you don't have some already.

SHORT VERSION of the above:
Don't over water, let the soil get dry between waterings.
Use liquid fertilizer in you water.
Also
Use bottled or reverse-osmosis water to put a halt to the brown tips.
