I was married for 13 years and now divorced. In the state of california. I was basically a stay-at-home mom and wife. Worked various part-times jobs here and there but relied solely on ex-husbands income since he worked as an officer for the state of california. I do not have representation cause I
simply cannot afford it. The-ex's attorney is pretty much trying to railroad me out of having my ex pay the insurance payment on my van, but we already had settled in court an order to pay the van payment plus the insurance and I was responsible for registration. If anyone has information please let me know thanks.

I'm going through it too, only five years marriage. Usually you can expect to collect alimony for at least half the length of the marriage. I was mostly raising his son and working only part time if and when I did, some points of our marriage I had broken a couple of bones, needing surgery. Show the judge your trying to help yourself, and do yourself a big favor and don't "mudsling", you know, down talk your ex or any real "unecessary" comments. It makes you come out alot better. Good luck and take care. Also check "Self Help" legal assistance on line.

You are entitled to alimony until you remarry. I don't know what part of California you're in but if you are in LA County, you can get assistance from Bet Tzedek. They provide legal assistance to those who are not able to afford one. Go to their website at www.bettzedek.org.
Good luck!

You can continue getting alimony till you get married for the second time or start earning for yourself. If you have children then you can get till they are adult.
