Gringo is still an ethnic slur, no matter who uses the word.

Gringo (feminine, gringa) is a term in the Spanish and Portuguese languages, with various related meanings, and often misunderstood by English speakers.
It depends on how sensitive the person is and where they are from. In Texas, we refer to females as gals, in some other places, thats an insult.

Yes. Gringo is not an ethnic slur. Now if they added adjective to the word it may not be acceptable , but how it was used , to whom and where really make it acceptable or not.

As long as they don't take offense then sure. Out in the construction field they use all sorts of "terms" and no one gets upset because they are all friends!
