I just bought an accoutsic guitar about 5 days ago and I feel like giving up! All I've been doing is random strumming. UGH! It's so hard. I can't move my fingers that fast from chord to chord and I feel like I'm always going to be this slow! And I can't remember any of the places where to put my fingers. I don't know any of the terms, it's all so complicating! I can't understand the guides and this is just so hard and overwhelming. When I got my guitar I thought it'd it be a piece of cake, but it's turning out to be so extremely hard! What do you suggest I do? I'm a TOTAL begginer, I don't know anything about the guitar and I feel like just giving up. I see other people play and they make it look so damn easy! What am I doing wrong?

Get the chords of a song you really like and really wanna learn it properly and practice it on the guitar. Learning the song you like can be more encouraging than jus learning a few dull open chords without any purpose.

You're starting out trying to learn too many notes at once! Try just learning 3 notes or so. play a tune that is really short. My friend kyle showed me something so simple to start off on. Like "Smoke on the Water" Use only the bottom string, and hit 3, 5, 7;
3, 5, 8, 7; 3, 5, 7, 5, 3____. (I am probably more of a beginner than you are) Also go to the music store and buy a book or two about an introduction to guitar. It should provide helpful methods to learn. I remember when I used to play trumpet, they only started me off with 1 note, then moved up to 3 notes, and started increasing from there. Try not to do all that much in one day too. I hope this helps. Good luck!

If we could learn anything in 5 days then we would be good at everything. That is not the way the world works. You got to learn the basics first, then build on it. If you want to be good at something, you have to practice, practice, practice and then more practice. The people who are excellent have practiced for many years. It is easy to give up on anything but it takes patience and persistence to follow through and be good at what you want to be good at. Even the best players practice a lot.

What you are doing wrong is you want everything to be a piece of cake and you want to learn just like that, in an instant. Take some lessons or have a friend who knows how to play help you out. If you really want to learn, you will make the time and the effort. Oh, did I mention PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE and more PRACTICE!!!! As you become more and more comfortable you will find it easier and easier.

DONT GIVE UP!! I bet everyone feels that way especially when it comes to learning how to play the guitar. I was the same way. Just learn a few chords, and after that, it will be a piece of cake. Have someone show you some chords, or watch a dvd/video that shows you how. Hang in there!!

Get a copy of guitar for the practicing musician magazine at your local bookstore or covenience store. It has music written in a form called tablature which shows you the strings and what fret to put your fingers on to form chords or even solo parts. It really helps & it has most current music in each magazine as well as back issues you can order or find online. You will notice a difference in your playing once you pick out a song from the magazine, listen to the recording if you have it & play along.

Here's a start for you - http://www.top100guitarsites.com/ - hope it helps! Keep practicing no matter what!! You will improve.

First thing.. Never quit playing!!!!.. after that .. don't worry about how well someone else plays.. that person has been playing alot longer than you .. they have already went thru all the doubt and confusion that is part of playing a new instrument... concentrate on yourself.. Yes.. you do have to know what all those spaces are.. they are called frets.. and are an integral part of understanding the guitar as an instrument.. once you understand the instrument.. it becomes very easy to control.. and you should know all your chords.. and all the notes between them.. and last.. NEVER STOP!!!.. and in years to come when you are as good as you want to be.. Others will use you as an example to just never give up.... ENJOY!!!!

It takes time and practice. Start off learning your major chords A B C D E F G, then learn your minor chords A B C D E F G. keep practicing these chords and when you get comfortable with them , then you can move on to other chords...it will take some time but if you try then you will suceed, remember...you have to learn to walk before you can run

i wanted to learn how to play the acuitar for acoustic guitar for ages and when one of my friends tried to teach me to play the guitar i wanted to give up so bad! i had neither patience nor thought that playing the guitar would be such a hard task.look, if you want give up but you will later regret it. start slowly and work your way up! all my friends have played the guitar for over 7 years but that is why they are so good so there is no way i can compare myself with them!second of all, it is a tidious thing that takes time and practice, like everydaty practice to make progress just like any musical instrument. third,the progress will not happen overnight but with time. you may not need to know all the complicated chords and so forth at the moment but just the basic. take it in baby steps and you will see that it is not so bad after all! i know that you thought that playing the guitar was going to be a piece of cake but so did i, yet i realized 10 minutes into learning how to play that i had to remember how it was when i played my flute: from beginner to advanced and how it took 7 and 1/2 or 8 years of playing the flute to get really good at it. my sugestion is not to give up. everyday practice a couple of chords and so forth maybe a handful of them until you can master them.the next day add one or more chords to what you could master the other day and so forth. therefore you are building a strong foundation and learning the chords at a slow pace yet the correct way. giving up is something i wanted to do multiple times while playing my flute in HS but luckily i did not since it made me stronger, driven and makes you work towards your goals more! if you really want to learn how to play the guitar then there should not be anything stopping you except you,yourself and the doubt of giving up! giving up is a sign of weakness as some great philosophers said and i go by their saying! you wanted to play the guitar, then stick to your promise of learning how to play the guitar!
