The Rain Man was a movie from 1988 with Tom Cruise as Charlie Babbit and Dustin Hoffman as Raymond Babbit, the autistic savant brother. Their father dies and when Charlie finds out that he left money to his brother, who is in a home due to his mental disorder, he plans a trip to see him because of the money. Raymond Babbit (Dustin Hoffman) was Rain Man - as you will see why below.

Charlie remembered someone from his childhood as Rain Man - and thought it was an imaginary friend from that time.. really it was his brother Raymond but Raymond was put into the mental institution at a young age and Charlie did not know or realize who this was. Charlie and his girlfriend take Raymond on a road trip to try to somehow convince him to get the money and it turns out that Charlie starts to care for his brother and love him instead of resenting him.

Stopping at a motel for the night, Charlie hears Raymond muttering the phrase "funny rain man." Charlie realizes that, as a toddler, he tried to say 'Raymond' but it came out 'Rain Man,' to which he responds, "You're the Rain Man?" Raymond produces a photo of two-year-old Charlie and thirteen-year-old Raymond, revealing that he was Charlie's supposedly imaginary friend. As Charlie draws water for a bath, Raymond has a panic attack, screaming, "Hot water burn baby," suggesting that Raymond almost burned his infant brother in scalding water, and this is why he was sent to the Walbrook Institution, although it was more likely that the father found himself unable to look after Raymond following the death of the mother (Raymond mentioned that he was sent to Walbrook a few days after his mother's death).

Raymond (RAIN MAN as his brother called him when he tried to say Raymond as a child) had some 6th sense like skills that some autistics do like counting toothpicks that someone dropped on the floor just just by looking and was able to "count cards" which meant money in the movie for Charlie since they went to the casinos for gambling. Sometimes, people with mental disorders wil have these super senses - often in mathematics when they do.

Most of the autistic population, would repeat things or make noises and/or movements, or need to have certain rituals to follow daily - routines that they are comfortable with.

Presume you're asking about "Rain Man" the movie? Dustin Hoffman played an autistic man who remembered his long absent brother as Rain Man. They were reunited when that brother returned to settle family estate. Rain Man took advantage of his autistic brother's incredible card counting skills to make a pile in Vegas. Rain Man's name in the movie was Raymond! Get it? Great movie and worth seeing, even if that wasn't what you were asking.
