As an old far* I can say that I was pleasently suprised at the benifits now available to old folk in the UK.
They are certainly better off than they were under 'Maggies Mob'!
This pension credit deal is good , it means anyone that has managed to save a few quid, (up to 16k) and has paid into a private pension (even a small one) will be rewarded for this!
Plus if in reciept of pension credit, they will have rent and poll tax paid!!
All this of course depends on income at the time of retirement, if you have managed to save an amount that gives you a very comfortable interest return, you will just recieve your basic pension.
However I am not at all happy about old folk having to sell their homes to pay for after care, but I believe this idea is now in process of being scrapped?
So all in all, I am sure the direction is going the right way!
People do need to be aware of the fact that if they make no attempt to provide for old age now while they are able, the benifits they could have recieved will diminish!!
I am quite happy with the present situation.
God forbid that the Conservatives ever get back in to screw it all up!!!
This was not meant to be a party political broadcast, but I detest the Tories and every thing the have stood for in the past, and every thing they now stand for!! AMEN.

I guess it depends what you mean by "well-being", and by "old". In healthcare terms people are living longer, which has to have something to do with better quality of life, greater access to health services, free medication and supplementary clinical support, etc.

In financial terms, people aren't saving enough for their retirement - simple as that. Years of "head in the ground" behaviour - "I don't understand it, so I'll ignore it, and rely on the State" has resulted in an impoverished senior population, to some extent. Mis-selling scandals, Robert Maxwell etc. all helped to reduce people's trust in pensions, and successive governments have made it more and more complicated, and less and less affordable. Old people are increasingly using Equity Release to free up income in retirement from their homes.

In social terms, old people's welfare is OK, in financial terms it is not, in my opinion. Our current generation of Oldies maybe have an excuse for not having saved for retirement - anyone now doesn't, and should be aware of the consequences. Don't expect the State to help you out

Got to have dosh to be happy in old age, for your electric invalid carriage and to live in the right part of town (where it is not dangerous, mainly because of traffic).

Best to keep your weight down as it is better for your health and people lifting you.

If you have lots of offspring, somebody may be around to help you?

If you are female, you will live longer. Imagine, being confined to a female institution like a Nursing Home? Sort of eliminates the will to live?

Question is not very clear but if you mean what will happen to old bods in later life, depends on their finances. If you are well off you get a nice care home, if not down the local council run one. Unless you have family who are willing to take care of you, there are not many options.
