There are a number of training facilities that offer the course in exotic locales and then promise you job placement. Beware, a lot of them are a scam. Sure, you get your training, they even toss in the gear ( not stuff you'd want), but your chances of getting a gig are EXACTLY the same as someone who did their training through a local dive shop. Doing it locally will save you money as well.
The only appreciable difference between the scams and the honest operations is the good ones will have a hospitality/management course as part of the curriculum.
Currently, dive operations have a high demand in the management side, not divers. Divers are a dime a dozen and everyone wants to live the lifestyle so there's a glut of them.
Instead of resort DM, why not look into scientific study programs, many are looking for divers. You may start as a volunteer, but they usually open up to a decent paying job and you won't be baby sitting, but doing working dives. An alternative is the booming eco and adventure tour market. New hot spots are opening up every day.
Here's a link to some of these types of jobs. Check out the entire site, sometimes the good stuff is hidden in a corner.

Sometimes some of the best and easiest to get jobs are ones that divers never even think of. Aquariums are usually always looking for staff divers and if you can get a security clearance in the USA, Oceaneering sub contracts out the divers that NASA uses for Astronaut training at their Dive tank with the Shuttle mock up. I know for a fact they are always hiring there and only require an Advanced Cert.
Thing is, look for the hidden jobs, not the resort "himbo" ones or be stupid like me and work up a sweat when you dive.

There are lots of places that you can go abroad to learn, and they'll teach you all the ins and outs of being a DiveMaster (which is more than just the academics of it!). You'll generally have to pay them to take the course with them, but they might let you work off some of the debt as part of your training. You can, in fact, do this up til Instructor Level, but it's not something you're going to earn a fortune from, you just do it for the love of the job! As ScubaBob says, there's lots of scams though - so if it's something you're tempted with... LOOK CAREFULLY!!!! Good luck!

Look at coming to the FL Keys. In Key Largo is Ocean Divers and they have an excellent record of training. They can certify you from Open Water through Instructor ratings. Check them out! My husband did it and we haven't regreted it
