To begin with you'll need a safe place for the infant to sleep, to change his/her diaper (and proper disposal technique--be it trash can with numerous small trash bags or a diaper genie doesn't matter), and blankies, baby clothes (onesies, pjs, socks, t's, etc.), diapers that would fit the baby, hamper or laundry basket (for soiled linens and clothes, obviously--something with a lid is preferred as to keep the smell to a minimum).
That's the bare necceassities for an infant's room. As the child grows, most prefer to also get a playpen, swing, toys, highchair, baby gates, child safety locks for misc. areas of your home, socket covers, etc.
There are two good links below that list all basic needs for a baby, including for their room.

The only things I truly found necessary were a changing table (I use cloth diapers so I need somewhere to put the diapers, not necessarily somewhere to change the baby), a dresser, and a closet. I have never purchased a crib, nor do I feel cribs are necessary for babies to have. Other things I've found nice to have include bouncy seats and baby gyms, but those aren't really baby room items, more like toys/accessories for the baby.
Honestly, babies don't really require a lot of stuff.

a place for the baby to sleep, a place for clothes, and some thing to put odd and ends in. a crib can come later, the dresser if you need one now, changing tables are used more for piling stuff up on than actually changing the baby, if you get a crib get a bed set, you will need baskets or bins as toys and clothes and ends build up over the first few weeks, and they can usually be stored on/in the changing table, and hangers to hange up outfits.

A loving environment is the only necessity for any child.
However, you might also consider a cot/bassinet and bedding, change table, monitor and lots of nappies! that would be the minimum.
