I love NJ. I lived there most of my life.
Best thing-the shore and the proximity to NYC
Worst thing-Cost (expensive housing, high taxes)

Originally from Atlantic City, but grew up in Hillside/Union/Elizabeth.

Best thing about the Garden State: Being in the middle of literally tons of American history, landmarks, and innovations (salt water taffy, anyone?) Anywhere from DC to Boston is no more than a five-hour drive or train ride.

Worst thing about New Jersey: (tie) Auto insurance rates and house prices-- especially if you grow up there, leave, and then try to come back without a well-paying job or three.

Overall, I would say the good things about New Jersey far outweigh the bad; after all, what other state can boast itself the birthplace of (among others): Bruce Springsteen, Ray Liotta, Joe Pesci, Ice-T, Bon Jovi, Shaquille O'Neal, William Carlos Williams, Bruce Willis, the modern American diner, and the founders of My Chemical Romance (the Way brothers), Wendy's (Dave Thomas) and the WNBA (Val Ackerman), and America's first college-football game (Princeton/Rutgers)?

I lived in Union, Westfield, Little Silver and Lake Hiawatha. What's it to ya'?

The worst thing is the traffic jams. Give me a few minutes on the best thing.

I've got it! I 95 and the Jersey Turnpike headed south. LMAO
