All waste from the child travels back through the placenta to be processed by the mother.

The child may "pee" (though there is no urine, so there is no danger).

If the child is full term or longer, the child may also "poo." This first poo is called "meconium" and can be dangerous because it can get into the lungs. It is generally green-black in color, so many doctors will automatically perform a cesarean section if the water breaks and comes out green.

Tabitha - "foetus" is correct in International English. Just because you only write American English is no reason to berate the asker.

Yes it does urinate but the stool starts to form but isn't released from baby's body until birth, sometimes it can happen while in a stressful labour which then you could be sent for a C-section as your baby is in distress.

The umbilical cord has 2 main veins one for the nutrition going in the other is for waste going out. The baby's kidneys start to produce urine at 13 weeks by 14 weeks the swallowing reflex has been mastered as the fetus sucks its thumb while floating weightlessly in the amniotic fluid. The placenta is the life line for the baby giving all the good stuff and taking all the bad. The amniotic fluid is replaced approximately every 24 hours. (I'm not 100% sure on the time but it is daily at leased)

The wastes will not be in a form of poo or urine. As the mother connects to the baby thru the umbilical cord, the wastes travel in the blood back to the mother who will 'dispose' of it.

The fetus does urinate frequently in the womb, but as this is natural the body deals with it. The amniotic fluid is constantly renewing itself so the urine will pose no threat to the baby. Babies rarely have a bowel movement in the womb, but if this does happen the baby must be delivered immediately to prevent illness or possibly even death.

They *can* poop (meconium) inside of the womb ... but it can be a deadly situation if it goes into the babies lungs. It's definitly not something that happens normally. It would just go into the amniotic fluid and they would swallow it... which is what makes it a sometimes deadly situation. It doesn't typically occur until during birth, but... of course, sometimes it does. Otherwise, the waste just goes through the placenta and umbilical cord.

yes they pee inside and it goes in the amiotic fliud. that gets replenished every 2 or so hours. most pregnancy books will tell you this and be able to go into more detail. if the baby poo's theres a problem and means the babys in distress but this normally does not happen and if it does its usually when the mothers in labor. it can be inhaled into the babys lungs and can cause seriouse problems.

If a fetus does it is during labor and is caused by stress. It is called meconium. and the babies are meconium stained. My daughter was born green they called her gazoo the little alien guy from the flinstones. They are easily cleaned up and yes they have to be watched carefully in case it gets into their lungs or if they swallowed they try to clean around their nose and mouth before they start to cry.

no the placenta deals with everything,if a baby has its first bowel movement before its born this is a dangerous situation,as it can inhale the fluid as its born and this will cause lung damage that will last a lifetime
