I'm sorry for my ignorance, but since this is such a talked about topic, I'd like it if someone explained to me (shortly) why is it that macs cannot(?) be infected by viruses.

The Majority is right that more people use PC's so thats where the virus writers attack. Hackers hate Microsoft, the id theft people go where the money is, and more virus writers know windows and its various exploits. MACs CAN get a virus if its written by someone who knows its coding and exploits, but most haven't been bothered. However EGO is a big thing for hackers and other people so as Apple is spending MILLIONS to strut there immunity, your going to see people attack that image just to prove a point. Also Mac sales are increasing and if and when a significant number of people start using them for all their financial securities, the ID theft gangs will migrate that away too. Macs will never outsell PC's but as a company there selling as many laptops and power systems as DELL is at the moment.

It's not that they are invulnerable to them, it's just that virus developers try to make the most harm with the viruses they produce. Since over 90% of the people use windows operating systems worldwide, it is much more effective to attack it than to go after Macs

Macs can be infected by virus' it is just that people don't write virus' for them (or Linux machines, or many other machines) - it is not worth their while as by far the majority of machines are windows so the virus has more chance of surviving

No worries. Macs have a superior operating system. Mac Os is a stronger written code and program. All the loops have pretty much been filled out.

it's the same reason that their is not as much software for macs (or at least not until recently). most software (and viruses) are targeted towards pc users since the majority of computers are pc's and not macs.

well for one the virus writers don't think its worth there time . they want to hit with the most damage so they hit the most popular. stay with mac your safer . but they can get infected.

macs came get viruses, the fact that over 90% of people use windows, is one reason for PC only viruses another is that haters all use macs

there are viruses for macs, it's just that no one uses macs, mac computers just as vulnerable as PCs, lol a trojan would work on any OS
