This probably is not what you want to hear, but if this guy is taking a long time to respond to your emails, he may not be that into you. You have probably heard about the book "He's Just Not That Into You", and it is probably true. If a guy really likes you, he is going to want to talk to you and email you as often as possible. Of couse, if he usually responds to your emails quicker, and this is just a recent thing, maybe he is busy with work/school or something like that. However, don't start making excuses for his slow response, and try not to take it personally. A guy who really likes you is going to be excited to hear from you. Taking three to four days to respond to your email shows that he's not that excited about you
I would suggest that you start taking your time responding to him, wait a few days just like he does. See what happens. If he starts asking you why you have not responded to his emails or is concerned when he doesn't hear from you, he may like you. However, if he doesn't react and he stops emailing you altogether, you've got your answer-he's not that into you. The best thing to do in the meantime is hang out with your friends and make sure that you are active, that way you can get your mind off of him.

In your next letter, suggest exchanging phone numbers. Then exchange phone numbers.
