My dog has soo much freakin personality, I'm convinced dogs are WAY smarter than cats. He knows so many commands, and I can actually let him play in the front yard alone and he won't leave the yard. Does anyone agree dogs are smarter than cats?

Dogs do have better brains than cats (Schultz & Dunbar, 2010), however mind dimension isn't a well indicator of intelligence (Purves et al., 2001). This is illustrated through the truth that neanderthals honestly had better brains than today's people (Braun, 2008). However, the quantity of neurons within the cortex is correlated with intelligence. On this degree, cats have the capabilities over puppies, with three hundred million neurons in a cat’s cortex in comparison to a hundred and sixty million in a puppy's. This indicates that cats have extra understanding processing capability

I had a persian cat for 15 years......he would fetch a ball or anything you threw,he would growl like a dog and protect the house from strangers, and one night ran to my back door and growled to alert me someone was about to break into my house.I am convinced my cat saved my life that night......as far as are cats smarter than dogs?? I don't know but they are smarter than most people!!

i am a dog person all the way!!! i have three of my own but, i don't think that dogs are smarter. I just think that dogs love to get approval from their master and cats could care less. so they are less likely to listen to commands. because what do they care.

I don't think any is smarter than the other (I'm a dog person though). I think their both pretty smart, it's just the way they act or think that may make one seem dumber or smarter than the other.

Dog's can be smart but I know about three cats that like to go outside and play. They always come back to the same house when they are hungry.

Dude.. this is like asking if women or men are smarter.
Everyone has some stupid opinion, but in the end it comes down to the individual animal. Just like people.

I think dogs and cats have about the same intelligence, but dogs are generally more trainable, while cats are more independent.

Cats have less fear than dogs and are better hunters. However our cats are very sociable, and seem to be fairly trainable--when they want to be.

It depends - maybe cats are too smart to follow commands they consider beneath them. After all...dogs have people, cats have staff.
