Is this a quack practice, or what?

Hi Hatt

I can tell from experience that energy healing is the most powerful and effective methods Ive been around. People might not understand it and dont give it no credit, but it can heal almost anything in my opinion. I would not hesitate to recommend this healing method to anyone. A few testimonials:

1. Relief from migraine headaches

I have suffered from migraine headaches since I was nine years old. My symptoms would start with loss of sight, sometimes loss of speech and then a severe headache. Bright lights and sound would irritate me and I would also feel nauseous.

Over the last three to four years it steadily became worse. I was lucky if I was free from a headache for one or two days.

It was around this time that I watched a programme on T.V about Reiki and also read about Reiki workshops in my local newspaper. I would have tried anything at this stage. I was only getting through the week on painkillers and I just could not take much more.

I attended a Reiki 1 workshop and have been practising Reiki on myself since. I have not looked back. I am much more relaxed and I feel so much better in myself. I no longer take painkillers. I only get a migraine once or twice a month now. When I get an attack, I do Reiki and the headache just goes away.

What did I ever do without Reiki. I dread to think how I would have coped without it.

2. Healing Psoriasis with Reiki

I suffered for many years with Psoriasis. I had hospital treatment and Ultra Violet Light Treatment. I had tried and failed with all the creams. I had tried TM, Reflexology, Homeopathy, all before I found Reiki.

Three months after I was introduced to Reiki, all my psoriasis disappeared within one week. Unlike all my other attempts, Reiki was easy. I used it daily but I didn't have to set aside a particular hour, I could incorporate it into my day to suit me. 15 minutes here and there... and it was all cumulative. It all counted. I found myself wanting to set aside more time! I checked on the psoriasis regularly during the course of the three months and... it was all still there... but strangely... it didnt seem to bother me... to get under my skin as much!

What I did notice was comments from people telling me how well I looked, how bright my eyes were, and you know, I felt it too. I had a bounce back in my step! I left a dreadful job. I had the courage to hand in my notice without another job lined up. I decided I would quite like to work in a certain place and with no job advertised I sent in my CV and got the job!

To me, the Reiki healed me on a much deaper level initially, it was more than skin deep. When my attitude and outlook to life shifted... so did my psoriasis. All thanks to Reiki!

Paula from Kilkenny

Best of health to you.

Cheers

To my knowledge there have been no completed research results at this time. I remember reading of some studies that were in progress, but do not recall where. Reiki results are very hard to measure. Was it a placebo? Was there another factor that either interfered or assisted in the healing? Very hard to tell if the Reiki is the definitive factor in the outcome.

As a Reiki instructor and massage therapist I have seen very interesting results in my practice.

I work part time with a chiropractor doing massage. These clients are not aware that I am also giving them Reiki (can't just turn it off!) Interestingly enough I have seen some of these clients who were at a plateau and not making progress in their healing before I began working with them suddenly take positive action to care for themselves and make changes in their lives. Sort of a "taking the bull by the horns" in their own healing process. Since the only thing I know of that has really changed for them is the fact that they are now receiving Reiki with their massage I would say the Reiki may have something to do with their progress toward healing. While I am a good massage therapist (I would like to believe I am!) I am not extremely experienced in massage yet and these clients have had other regular non-Reiki massage before I was hired. Is the Reiki the trigger that has initiated the positive changes for these people? Who can say for sure?

From my experiences seeing the changes in the lives of my students as they are attuned to Reiki, and the effects on my clients and on myself I have to say it is not a quack practice. I have been doing Reiki for about 6 years now. I was skeptical at first too. The whole idea does seem rather weird if you ask me! Who am I to question what works for some people.

For those who believe they were not "healed" by Reiki perhaps there is another perspective. I had migranes and Reiki did not take them away...It turned out I needed massage to release the muscle tightness that contributed to the headaches. This ended up leading me to go to massage school and change my career! Did the Reiki keep the headaches from being worse than they might have been??? Did the Reiki trigger my spirit to seek the massage and find a new life direction and purpose with a new career as well??? Could be. (I was a machinist...pretty far fetched to become a massage therapist!)

In order to determine if Reiki "heals" we need to examine our perspective of healing itself. It works on a much different level than our idea of what medicine and healing are in this society. Healing is not always what we determine or imagine it to be!

More and more hositals are bringing in Reiki Practioners, which is a form of energy healing, to teach the nurses so they can use on their patients. Some have had good success with it. However, it has not been proven either way whether or not it works. I think it depends a lot on the extent of training the particular person has who uses it.

i have been to the Reiki training session. I am a nurse and was quite curious. Bottom line for me is it is pure placebo effect. I had a migraine headache and 6 people "worked" on me. My headache was still there until my drugs kicked in. Does a hug make you feel better? Does a child feel better after you kiss the pinched finger? If placebo effects works for you that is wonderful!! Sorry but for me it is a waste of time and money...
