Public libraries generally have a good collection of car repair books. If nothing else, you can probably find the Chilton manual for your specific car, but a better thing to do would be make friends with someone who knows a lot and watch him do repairs.

Go to school for automotive technology like I did, it is a lot more involved that alternators, starters, and spark plugs as most people think.

Chiltons, they have a book on every model and make of any car. If you cant afford to buy one,the libraries sometimes has them to check out.

chiltons are expensive but are more in depth. I like haynes though
