first i will say people do not judge this girl for having to make a very difficult decision.i know it is not easy.there are all different types of reasons women chose to do this which i will not get into.some clinics will offer iv sedation with nitrous oxide.you will feel cramps almost like you period but a little worst.usually they give you a script to take care of the pain.and they will also give you some anti biotics and other medicine.i strongly suggest you talk to a counselor before making this decision.usually clinics that do these procedures will offer it.good luck to you

I had a surgical abortion at 15 weeks. It was done while I was under IV sedation so, I was asleep the whole time. When I woke up the pain was nothing worse than my monthly menstrual cramps. I think the IV was worse because I really hated the feeling of the IV going in my veins and my mind slowly becoming numb so that I would pass out. It's sort of creepy actually.
The actual procedure doesn't last much longer than 20 minutes so, if you have the unfortunate luck of being an American and you don't get to be sedated, just remember that it will be over quickly and recovery is a breeze! You'll be sore for a little while but, you shouldn't bleed too much but, you might bleed for a few days. You can take motrin for the cramping and use a hot water bottle on your belly if it hurts. They also gave me tylenol 3s (the kind with codeine) but, I didn't really need it and didn't take it because I hate codeine!!!
I do suggest against getting a chemical abortion instead of the surgical as the chemical abortion is like in induced miscarriage. It takes a lot longer with more cramping and much more bleeding and a greater risk of infection.
Good luck! And don't let the crazy anti-choicers get to you. If you know that what you are doing is the right choice, you are not going to live in some sort of guilt ridden and self made turmoil for the rest of your life. It will be okay.

Yes unfortuantly I had one about 2 months ago. My daughters heart stopped and i had to have her surgically removed.
They start by placing these 2 strips in you to open your cervix this is the most painful part because they wont give you any drugs for that only motrin, you wil then go in again and this time they give you drugs through an iv which does help, you will feel alot of pressure and its over in less than 5 min or so. The bleeding and the cramping after is prob the worst part, make sure you stock up on pads and pain killers for the cramps.

I have an older cousin who had an abortion when she was 19 now shes 29 trying to get pregnant for the past year and a half and having alot of trouble. Not judging but think long and hard before you act. A decision like an abortion will follow you your whole life.

Some mild cramping but nothing horrible - just follow the discharge instructions and you'll be fine.
Also, make sure you have all the information available and have made the right decision for you. I don't regret it but I know some people who do.

oof. i was almost 6months when i got mind done. i went through 28 hours of LABOR..except for the pushing part. the baby was too big so they had to dilate my cervix. of course i was put to sleep during the procedure but day before my abortion was awfull. &after they are done with the procedure, they will force you to wake up &leave the clinic &rest. so ur like real dizzy..but im glad i did it. good luck.

The life long pain is extremely painful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not just to you but also for your dad, mom and even other people you don't even know.
Go find a CD by Kathy Troccoli called "A BABIES PRAYER." Listen to it, you will be very glad you did.
