Well I totally understand that because I do the SAME thing when it comes to my homework...I think I know why....It is because we have better things to do than do the dreaded word HOMEWORK!...I don't know about you but I sware I friggin hate homework with a passion!...I sware I would rather kill myself than do homework every night!...It sucks!...I am tired of school but I am not going to quit I am going to succeed in my life unlike some people in my family.....and I am hoping you are going to go to college to make something outta yourself!

Obviously you are putting it off for a reason - is it boring you or is it too difficult? But I have to admit - I did the same thing and I always told myself I would break the habit and I never did. I think that I did better at homework under pressure. But you should make a list of what you need to do each night, prioritize it, and maybe spread your homework time throughout the night, taking breaks to do other things on your list. Check off your list and make sure homework gets checked off every night. Learn to let things go, too if they aren't too important if you are using other things to procrastinate on something important like schoolwork.

You didn't mention how old you are or what grade you are in. I have had 3 kids, 15 foster children and am raising my niece. In all cases it boils down to knowing "why" you are doing your homework. Up until now it is just something expected of you but what is your goal in life? My niece would like to be a nurse but was failing her freshman and sophmore classes. We discussed how it sounded cool to say she was going to be a nurse but her actions would never allow her to be. It was kind of a "put up or shut up" moment. We agreed to enroll her in a charter school where she only spends a day and a half per week actually in class. That allows her to hold down a part time job. Then we set Fridays for all of her school work for the week. Her teachers post her assignments online as well as verbally in class so she is able to make sure she doesn't miss anything. She doesn't do anything social on Fridays until her work is completed. She is now getting A's and with each success her confidence increases and more than anything she is seeing her goal as something real. Any nursing school will be happy to have an A student. Sit down and write a 5 year plan. I think you'll see homework as education and a step toward your goal rather than drudgery. P.S. drugs, alcohol, and too much internet, T.V., phone, or gaming will definitely cheat you of your future. Be in charge of your life.

You're procrastinating because you would rather do other things than your homework, right? Then your priorities need to change. It takes discipline, of course. Your priorities will determine what you actually do and when. You might try the homework earlier and then reward yourself by doing something fun after that.

Apparently you like to come home, have something to eat, chill and chill and then buckle down again. As long as homework is getting done you are ahead of the game.

However, if you want to get it done see if there is an after school program. They usually offer a snack, academic support from 3 to 4, activities and dinner. If you don't want to hang there after homework you can sign out and go home. Just make sure your parent communicates with the staff that you are allowed to leave after academic support.
