Photosynthesis occur in the chloroplasts of plant cells. There is a green pigment named chlorophyll (which is also why most leaves are green) in the chloroplast that helps the process. Flower petals do not have chlorophyll, so it won't absorb the necessary sunlight for photosynthesis to occur.
