When I played baseball as a kid, if the ball hit the groud first it didn't matter if it hit you, it was a dead ball. So then why is it that in the Big Leagues if a ball bounces off the ground and hits you in the face you get to take your base?

The ball did bounce and hit Valentine. If the ball did not hit him, it was still a live ball and runners could have advanced on the wild pitch. If the pitch hits the ground it cannot bounce into the strike zone and be a called strike but the pitch is live and the batter may swing and put the ball into play.

i have no idea i figure if its like that then if the ball hits the ground and bounces in the strike zone it should be a trike.

I'm not sure if I know what you are talking about. If I remember right, Valentin actually singled into right center field, maybe I'm wrong.

yes thats right,I dont know where you played little league at but they didnt know the rules
