Let the width be x.
Then the length must be 3x.
The perimeter is two times the length, plus two times the width.
In other words, the perimeter is 8x.

If 8x = 264, then x = 264/8 = 33.

Hence, the card has a length of 99 and a width of 33.

If the width = w,
then the length is = 3w
Perimeter is the distance right round a shape. This shape is a rectangle (since one side is longer than the other) with 4 sides (2 lenghts and 2 widths)

So Perimeter = 3w + 3w + w + w = 264

6w + 2w = 264
8w = 264
w = 264/8
w = 33

The dimensions therefore are
width = w = 33 inches
Length = 3w = 3X33 = 99 inches

To Check:
Perimeter = 99 + 99 + 33 + 33 = 264!

perimeter = 2x + 2y
say x = width
say y = length

length = 3 x width
y = 3x

Equation 1; 2x + 2y = 264
Equation 2; y = 3x

by substitution to equation 1;

2x + 2y = 264 ; since y = 3x

2x + 2(3x) = 264
2x + 6x = 264
8x = 264
x = 264/8
x = 33

therefore;

if width is = 33 inches the length would be = 3(33) = 99

width is = 33 inches
legnth = 99 inches

Think of this: If the length is 3 times the width, the same applies to the dimensions! If you know the parameter, you've got it!

well, kinda logical, but if u want it to be solved using algebra, then so be it
let x be the width, therefore the length is 3x

perimeter = x + 3x + x + 3x
8x = 264
x = 33
therefore, the width is 33 inches, the length is 3x33 = 99 inches

L=3W
P=264=2L+2W

264=2(3W) +2W
264=8W
W=33
L=3(33)
L=99

suppose its width is x
lenght=3x
perimeter=2*(length+breadth)
2*(x+3x)=264inches
2*4x=264
4x=264/2=132
therefore x=132/4=33inches
therefore lenght =33*3=99inches
dimensions=33inches and 99inches

x=3y, 2x+2y=264
2(3y)+2y=264
8y=264
y=33
x=99

hope it helps
