almost all computers have some sort or other of a media player already installed on them. if you have recently purchased a computer, you should be all set to go. if you still feel that this is not enough, then you can download and install a media player called Winamp for free, from their website, www.winamp.com
as to playing a music file that you recieve in an e-mail, you would download it as a regular attachment onto your computer and then just open it like you would any other file. most e-mail programs have a "paper clip" symbol to identify attachments, so to download any attachment all you would do is click on the filename next to the paper clip symbol. if you still need help on downloading attachments, then you can always use your e-mail programs built-in help feature and search for "downloading attachments." hope this helps.

Just make sure that you have a player downloaded on your computer like Real Player or Windows Media player. Just click on the link that your friend emails to you and your computer will do the rest.

Save it into a folder and double click to open it.
Often the case if you coudn't open the music file, check the extension... ABCDEF.xxx (extension should be the last xxx alphanumeric.. could be mp3, mp4, wav, dat, and et cetra)
So.. different program open different format. But, most of them operable with Microsoft Media Player
