When I married both my husband and I hyphenated our last names. I chose to hyphenate because I was known professionally by my maiden name and didn't want to lose that identity. My husband chose to because he wanted our family to have the same last name. When my son was born he also has a hyphenated last name. We did have problems getting my husband's name changed on his license but since then it hasn't been a problem.

actually as odd as it sounds, I'm keeping my last married name and adding my new married name to it.
I have children from my first marriage and I don't want to end that recognized link to them and besides it will irk my ex for me to do that. Plus my new husband has a sense of humor about it all, and doesn't mind, he understands about my want to stay linked with my children by name also(it makes things much easier in schools and medically).

My parents only had two girls so I always wanted to hypenate my last name to keep the family name alive after Dad was gone. This didn't work out to well as my maiden name was Shee and my married name is Mann. Was just to ridiculous to contemplate. Shee-Mann or Mann-Shee.

I would keep my maiden name. I have had it for 40 years. No point in making the switch now.

When I got married, I proudly took my husband's name. In return, he took my maiden name as his middle name. I see it as an even swap.

hyphenate it, it just does not feel right to let go of my unique last name.

I'll take his name if it's more than one syllable. But if it's just one, I'll hyphenate mine. (More than one syllable added to mine would just sound weird.)

I'll take his name.
I really feel it's a respect issue.
I could keep my own, but then it's like...I'm not a part of him...and I'm holding onto my past...sort of.
