US army concedes failure in Baghdad

American and Iraqi efforts to improve security in Baghdad have failed to reduce bloodshed in the increasingly violent Iraqi capital, the senior US military spokesman in Iraq acknowledged on Thursday.

In an uncharacteristically gloomy admission, Major General William Caldwell said the recent surge in violence was “disheartening”. He said US and Iraqi forces would have to “refocus” security measures. The review was demanded by General George Casey, who commands the 140,000 US troops in Iraq.

Okay, How do you refocus?
Maybe its time to bring the troops home and let Iraq Take Care of her own.

Overall consensus is for the US to get out. If we read now unclassified documents from direct from DC, as well as other think tanks, they will confirm that the US does not intend to leave anyway. However, I believe Bush has bitten off more than he can chew this time. Every war is different. This isn't a War on Terror. This is more like a War Against Evil. with many players I might add. Not too sure if recent and elevated number of deaths in Iraq are Muslim against Muslim. History tells us even recently, that there have been and continue to be any number of situations where one group fashions themselves as aniother group just so that the blame for particular incidents are reversed. I believe most in the United States are tired of these attacks, tired of losing US troops, as well as the daily staggering toll of INNOCENT Iraqi civilians.

Pull out of Iraq; give up the oil there and buy it from Saudi Arabia. They don’t want u there, the American soldiers don’t want to be there, the American citizen don’t want the soldiers there, pulling out now = win-win situation for everyone. Screw the corporations; all they want is money. And maybe do something about ur international image by donating 50 billion dollars to Africa or dismantling Nike sweatshop in Southeast Asia or something.

The most disheartening thing is that we ever went over there in the first place!! Who in their right mind thought this would be over in a couple months? When, IN THE HISTORY OF THE EARTH, has a war lasted 2 months??!! On the other hand, how many times have politicians claimed that a war would be over quickly? Answer-- AGAIN and AGAIN. Don't believe the hype!!

Grow up man. This was never about helping anybody. The US is in Iraq to support the military industrial complex. When you make as many bombs as the US does you have to make room for more by dropping them on someone. George W couldn't care less how much pain that causes.

US should Never leave,
we need a permanent hardened base in the Mideast to keep Iran in check and prevent "Militants" from starting WW3 and using Oil as a weapon.

We need to stop "policing" Iraq. Pull back to a hardened position and react to "occurrences' swiftly and with excessive force. Let Muslim kill Muslim for a while like they have done for a hundred years.

Totally agree with you there. Bring our troops home and let the Iraqi government deal with their own.
