My roomie has an early 2000's Pontiac Grand Prix GT with the exact same thing on it. It's set by default to come on all the time. He turns OFF the traction control at ALL times when the streets are dry. He does this to save the tranny. He ONLY USES that Traction Control device during the rain, snow or other slippery road conditions.

Traction control off. There is a button on the shifter or near it that allow you to turn the anti slip off. Traction control helps prevent wheel spin in slippery conditions. Most of the time you will never need traction control unless your are a lead foot like me.

A code in ABS will turn on Trac off light.,because they both use the wheel speed sensors to limit wheel spin or wheels locking up,Some cars use the elec throttle control to acomplish this ,others use the ABS .

i own a repair sop,and it does this because of the road conditions if it need it it will engage it by its self, its normal for it to once in a while go on,and off, this just means its working right on it,if it goes off,and doesn't come back on then there's something wrong with it,but its OK,good luck i hope this help.s.
