Deductive vs. inductive reasoning. One usually works better than the other depending on the subjects/topics, but most people generally use one over the other when there's no clear indication of which to choose. Kind of like visual vs. auditory learning. It doesn't say much about intelligence, just the way the person works.

they look at the big picture instead of looking at the small. they look outside the boxs. those people are good at chess probably
