i own a repair shop and normally they will last a few years,or at least 25 thousand miles on one ,it really all depends on how much you have to use them, and where you live at can make a difference also, like on a hill or something like that, but good brakes if treated right should last for at least 2 yrs ,before they need replacing, good luck i hope this help,s.

Maybe the former owner was hard on the brakes. Some people "rush" traffic lights, and then have to brake hard. Wears brakes unusually fast. Have them checked by someone you TRUST! Just any old shop is going to try an take you for a brake ride! Get your dad to go along with you!

Depends on a couple of things. how was the car driven before you bought it? What kind of car is it? Also noise does not necessarily mean the pads are worn out. I you drive slow and ride the brakes for a long time you can build a glaze on the pad surface which can cause noise.

If you do not "ride the brakes" (driving hard not relevant) then it could be they need adjusting, or in my case, they had to have the drums (rotors?) turned. (factory boo-boo) and it only got done because I called the 1800 # for a replacement vehicle when the dealer wasn't resolving the problem. He resolved it after getting a call from the 1800 folks. good luck

Yea its abnoramal! Are you sure it is a BRAND NEW CAR? Never been used!? If it was my car and it was BRAND NEW I would be very worried about this and would take it to the dealership, do you have some sort of warranty on it? Either make them fix it, or get another car! Because If you REALLY only haev 10,000 miles than this is very odd.... My Breaks usually last a couple years...and I do ALot of Driving!

its a normal noise with asbestos brakes. doesnt take but a few minutes for a mechanic to check your brakes and let you know condition. when you do require new brakes, get the ceramic type, more expensive but eliminates most of the dust and the squealing.
