Good question, I was just wondering the same thing myself. As for college football, on a Chicago sports radio station, they said to make college football what it really is, a minor league for the NFL. Athletes would receive minor league pay, would not have to go to class, but would represent the college they play for. They also added that the athletes would not be allowed to live on campus, so they don't rape the students! LOL, sorry if that didn't read funny, but I about wrecked the car laughing when I heard it. Good post.

I've noticed that the quality of discourse is often not of the highest. :-)
In my opinion, a good starting place to improve college football would be to enforce stronger sanctions against hideous displays like the brawl between Miami and FIU. Another would be to give honor where it is due, to those universities that have high graduation rates for student athletes. Northwestern, for example, and Notre Dame, rank well in that area---as well as my own alma mater, Michigan.
A further way would be to eliminate the BCS series as a way to determine the phantom "National Champion." This only encourages coaches to run up lopsided scores in an effort to gain points and publicity. Poor sportsmanship, like not playing the bench when leading by three or four touchdowns, is bad for everyone---the morale of the losing team, as well as of the winning team since the substitutes put in as much practice time yet don't get playing time.
I am a lifelong fan of college football, coming from a football family, and I enjoy that level of the game much more than the pro, which is too often, joylessly mechanical.

Crap questions get more answers because they tend to attract more smart***ed responses, either because they shock and offend a lot of people or simply, as you say, attract their attention.

For major college football to survive with any sort of competitive integrity, Division I-A needs to adopt a 16-team playoff, like Division I-AA and DIvision II -- with each I-A conference guaranteed at least one representative, and all participating schools EQUALLY dividing the revenue from the tournament/bowl games.

Also, the Miami and Florida International programs should each forfeit their team's next scheduled game, and anyone caught on tape swinging a helmet or kicking another player should have their scholarship revoked, permanently -- and the schools should not be allowed to replace the scholarships to other players until they would naturally have run their course.

Lastly, all players leaving early for the NFL draft should be required to repay, in full, the value of their full ride scholarships to the school, as they obviously did not make use of the funds for education as they were intended. Better yet, let them pay back double the value and let the school use the money to fund one athletic AND one academic scholarship for future students.

There you go, 4 answers in 1... :)

How did your question wind up here? College football is great, you just have to ask yourself "what do I want to see changed in the NCAA football ranks that will make it more enjoyable to me?", then realize that question is crap! Get over yourself and get a new forum. The sport will survive @ it lowest common denominator because real sportsmen will tolerate it !! It's FOOTBALL !!!!!!!

Regarding your question about crap questions getting all the answers. Isn't it obvious that it shows the mentality of the majority of the people answering questions. The same holds true as the reason for all the crap questions being asked. As for college football. College sports, especially football, cost the schools lots of money. I for one think all that money could be put to much better use educating those who are unable to otherwise get an education.

People feel intimidated with a question regarding Hegelian philosophy and how it relates to an agrarian etymology in a cybernized society.

However, if you ask which of these hot actresses has the best rack, you'll get answers until the cows come home, because it doesn't require anything but a pulse

I can't answer your question about football. I'll attempt to answer your other question though - more people answer crap questions because the majority of people just want two easy points.
I think it's kind of a good thing that good questions don't get as many answers - for the simple reason that a real question deserves better than 40 people just giving crap answers like 'dunno but thanks for the 2 points'.
If a question I ask just gets ONE good answer it means more than forty crap answers.

I think it's because the crap questions are easier to answer and most people just want points - as bitchy as that may sound, I'm sure its partially true. Plus, for crap questions you can give crap answers and people won't really trash you for it.
