I've heard of the nostepinde but it looks kinda hard to operate. Does anybody at least know of a video I can watch to get the art down?

The Hatchtown Farm website has a really clear explanation of how to use a nosty. It's pretty easy, just concentrate on keeping the yarn in a flat little "cake". Also, you don't really need the fancy carved nostepinde, you can use any tapered cylindrical-shaped object -- a tube of mascara makes a good nosty in a pinch. Have fun!

You can make a center pull ball of yarn with nothing but your fingers. Start by holding up your left thumb, and, leaving a short tail hanging down a few inches, start wrapping the yarn around your thumb until it is about an inch around. Then, bring the yarn up and over the top of the bulge, next to the top left sideof your thumb, then down the other side, under the wrapped yarn, next to the right side of your thumb. Do it again, the second wrap lying just beside the first. The second wrap will cross over the first near the top of your thumb. Go round and round, laying each wrap just next to the one before it. You may need to turn the ball on your thumb clockwise to keep the wraps lying next to each other. Just don't take it off your thumb until you have wrapped all the yarn. The tail you started with is the yarn you pull from the center. Be sure not to wrap it too tightly; it will stretch out the yarn. Have fun!

Don't spit on the ball and it will go straight down the center. If you spit on it , you will have to throw a slider. No amount of yarn will save you if you do that. Good Luck ! :)
