Trac off means Traction Control Steering is off. You don't need your trac on all the time. Some cars have a button for this and some cars automatically turn your trac on or off depending on the conditions of the road.

Winter is the best time to have the "trac off" button off(not lit up) or during rain storms, otherwise you can push the "trac off" button to the on position(lit up) for highway driving or everyday around town driving.
