It's rather hard, if not impossible, to list the top schools without breaking it down by area of concentration. Even then, the "best" schools within a particular discipline may not be the best fit for you simply based on your interests (overlooking any academic or GRE shortfalls). Schools like Michigan and Stanford are generally very strong in most areas, but within a given subdiscipline, other schools may be better.
My suggestion would be to talk with some of the psychology faculty at your current institution, particularly in areas that interest you (clinical, developmental, social, etc.). They should be able to tell you the most prestigious programs in that area, as well as programs that focus on those topics which appeal to you the most (i.e. the best school/person for anxiety disorders may be different from the one for schizophrenia). As mentioned above, the Psy.D. is a bit different than the Ph.D., as it's more applied and is primarily a counseling-type degree. If you are more interested in other areas of psych, or in research in general, then you should probably focus on Ph.D. programs.

University of Michigan is probably the country's # rank school for the phd program in psychology. It has a really strong faculty body, as well as student body. However, it is really difficult to get in, thus you will need really good academic records, a good master thesis or any other writing of yours, and very strong recommendation. You can actually research for rank of different schools by speciality of phd program in the Natoinal Research Council. Good luck. I once also thought of entering into psychology, but i chose sociology instead, and now i am in the last year of finishing up my dissertation. Thus, i wish you the best years in graduate school. It is much more difficult for the phd program, but you will learn a lot, hopefullly with fun as well.

Do you want to write a dissertation based upon experiments, or teach and work in academia? Then a Ph.D. in Psychology is what you want. However, if you want to be a Psychologist, there is a new degree: a Psy.D. It is more hands-on. You may wish to see your college's career counselor to help you decide what your goal is, then go about working toward it. Best wishes.
