I'd want water, a compass, and some source of fire, like a magnifing glass or full lighter or something.

First of all, I wouldn't be stranded in a dessert. I would be stranded in a desert. And if that be the case, I would bring the Bible, however much water I would need while I was there, and food enough for however long I would be there.

If you mean Desert then I would want a GPRS locator, water and a jeep (filled with petrol of course)

If I was stranded in a dessert i'd bring a spoon, a napkin and a glass of milk but if I was stranded in a desert i'd bring water (duh), chapstick and something to provide shade.
